Sunday, July 13, 2003 Chicagomackinac race update

Sunday 20 July
1836

Currently two boats are on the island- a total of 4 hulls.  At 1344 Earth Voyager took overall 1st to finish honors in an elapsed time of 23 hours 14 minutes.  At 1748 the first monohull Alchemy crossed the line for a time of 27 hours 28 minutes.  At the Southampton buoy Earth Voyager was only 2 minutes ahead!  Earth Voyager's time is a new elapsed time record for the Southampton course by over 11 hours!

For the remainder of the fleet conditions are less than stellar.  Mackinac Island has winds from the WNW at 5 knots while the northern Lake Huron weather buoy shows SSE winds of 4 knots.  This is a continuation of what the fleet has experienced generally following winds in the light to moderate range.

Our next report will be posted at approximately 0600 eastern Monday morning.
