July 23 8:30 EDT July 23 8:10 EDT All but 3 boats on the Southampton course have finished. Still racing are Sea Monkey's in Class F and Youda 1 and Immisericors in Class I. On the shore course 10 boats from Cruising Class B are still on the course. July 23 6:35 EDT Preliminary Results from Southampton Course. With some protests pending, to be heard Tuesday. One major protest is Insaitiable v. Decision stemming from an incident during the start. GL 70 July 23 6:12 EDT Southampton Course Finish status: GL 70, Class A,B,C,D,E and G all boats have finished. 2 boats from Class F are sailing, 4 from Class H and 6 from Class I. Shore Course: Class A,J,K and L have a 100% finish rate. Cruising B has 11 boats racing still. Total of 23 boats have yet to finish. July 23 3:51 PM EDT- Sailor reports "warmest Mac ever." Indicates no warm or foul weather gear until this morning. Then only because dew had collected on the deck. All in all a pleasant race! July 23 3:31 PM EDT 176 boats have finished the race. From the island observers can count more than 70 boats on the horizon with 94 yachts to complete the race. July 23 3:23 PM EDT At 3:22 PM EDT Frank Cauely of AN GHAOTH AG DO CHUL retired from the race and is motoring in to Roger City. Everyone is fine. July 23 2:52 PM EDT Race update from Mackinac Island: There are 270 yachts racing in the 2001 Bayview Mackinac race. At 1:36 PM EDT, 137 yachts were finished at 2:34 PM EDT , 148 yachts had finished and at 2:50 PM EDT, 151 yachts have finished. It has turned a little overcast and there is a steady 14 knot breeze and still a beautiful day on the paradise known as Mackinac Island. July 23 2:25 PM EDT- With Midnight Express' 1228 finish all PHRF Class A boats are finished. Additional Class B finishers include Tsunami at 1333. 12 class C boats have finished, Gauntlet at 1351. 7 class F boats are in, latest Majic Star at 1343. Top 3 in the J 105 class now settled: Macho Duck 1315, Phantom 1318, Creatlive LTC 1326. Time an Express 35 in Class H is a perennial Mackinac winner. Looks as though Time has done it again crossing the line at 1334, owing very few boats time. July 23 1:55 PM EDT- Shore Course Bantu many time Great Lakes offshore race winner finished at 1307. At least 4 boats have already bested Bantu on corrected time. All but one of the C&C 35's has finished. Only 1 boat in cruising B has finished Yare an S&S 36 @ 1301. Yare is rated well down in this class and so has an excellent shot at corrected time honors. July 23 1:45 PM EDT- Class B finishers: Sagitta 1225, Saralysia 1237, Eagle One 1241, Pterodactly 1243. 1D 35 Iris maintains unofficial corrected time lead. Class C, only Merlin of the J 120's has not finished. Class D finishers: Big Fun 1226, Rovente 1245, Esta Es III 1252, Titan 1307 July 23 1:45 PM EDT Currently 104 boats of 270 finished and enjoying Mackinac Island. July 23 12:45 PM EDT The 1st boat in Class E is the J 35 Mr. Bill's Wild Ride. Finish time 1219, as this is a non handicap class they are the winner. In Class C 6 J 120's are in having finished within 75 minutes of each other. Class B has another finisher Serenissima the second Sydney 38 across the line at 1219. In class A Allegiance nipped across the line at 11 56 08 with Erleichda next at 11 56 44. July 23 12:00 EDT Twelve more finishers are now at the island. Hot Ticket finishes at 1105 to win the J-120 class by a minute over Flyin' Irish with Jayhawker 3rd at 1109. Class B Painkiller 4 in at 1056, One Design 35 Iris at 1104 takes Class B corrected time lead by approximately 3 minutes. More Class A finishers include: Crazy Horse 1006, Fazisi 1012, Dolphin 1024, Criterion 1040 and Oracle 1119. Boats are beating to the finish. July 23 11:15 AM EDT Six more boats have completed the Shore Course. In Cruising A Mambo King finished at 1030, Sundance 1048. Class J Lady Luck 0958, Rush 1050. In Class K Bravo at 1026, Mystery at 1037. This class is a full one design all boats being C&C 35's. This means that these first 2 finishers grabbed the top 2 spots in class with no waiting for time allowances. July 23 11:13 AM EDT Race Update from Mackinac Island: Up on the top of the Mission Point Resort is the Bayview Mackinac Race Committee Office. From here we can look east out into Lake Huron. We can see masts appearing everywhere on the horizon. They have a great steady breeze, approx 8-10 knots out of the WNW (in the Straits). They are "beating" up to the finish line. It is another beautiful day in Paradise up here! July 23 10:30 AM EDT Majic a Chicago based Sydney 41 is the first PHRF B boat to finish at 1006. Majic also rounded the NGS buoy 1st in class. Also, more PHRF A finishers: Margaret Rintoul at 0933, Insaitable 21 seconds later and Bandit at 0948. Within those 3 boats Insaitable edges Bandit by approximately 2 minutes on corrected time. 16 of 23 PHRF A boats have finished. July 23 10:30 AM EDT Reports from the course indicate that the remainder of the fleet is in between Mackinac Island and Spectacle Reef. July 23 10:26 AM EDT Race Update from Mackinac Island: Blue Skies, lots of sunshine and a steady breeze funneling through The Straits out of the WNW are bringing the fleet closer to the Island. July 23 10:00 AM EDT IMS corrected time results for the Great Lakes 70's are not yet available. We have used PHRF #'s (again the official results will be based on IMS) to gain a sense of the corrected finishing order. Based on this the top 3 appear to be 1. Colt 45 2. Stripes 3. Piped Piper. Stripes and Pied Piper are within a minute under PHRF. We will report the official IMS based results as soon as they are released. July 23 9:30 AM EDT Three more Southampton PHRF Class A finishers: Natalie J 0906, Promotion 0908 and Goblin 0913. Rating at -6 Promotion and Goblin correct out over Natalie J a -12 rater. July 23 9:00 AM EDT Total of 6 shore course finishers: Wild Thang 0518, Grizzly 0612, Canvasback 0747, Instaitable 0750, and Loon Magic 0807. Grizzly sailed by Old Goat Com. Charles Bayer who sailed his first Mackinac in 1947 beat Canvasback and Insaitable on corrected time. July 23 9:00 AM EDT 2 more PHRF A boats have finished Victrix at 0737 and Undaunted at 0815. Of the two Undaunted wins on corrected time. Neither beats previous PHRF A finishers, putting them 7th and 8th respectively. July 23 7:25 AM EDT 'An Off Wind race for Big Boats' July 23 6:47 AM EDT Elapsed Time Record Update. First to finish trimaran Earth Voyager has set a new outright record for the Southampton course. Earther Voyager sailed the course in 24 hours 19 minutes and 29 seconds an average of 10.4 knots. Decision set a new elapsed time record for the Southampton course for a monohull. The Andrews turbo sled covered the course in 28 hours 11 minutes 59 seconds an average speed of 8.97. This breaks Pied Piper's record set in 2000 the first year of the 253 mile Southampton course. Decision also claims the PHRF Class A record formerly held by the Frers 50 Promotion. July 23 6:40 AM EDT
Preliminary, unofficial calculations indicate the following
corrected time order for the Open Class. July 23 6:25 AM EDT Additional Southampton Course PHRF A finishers. Note: All boats beaten on corrected time by PHRF A first to finish boat Decision. In fact the maximum time Decision owed boats in Class A was 9 hours and 3 minutes. Since the boats owed this time didn't finish within that window Decision appears to have unofficially won PHRF Class A.
July 23 6:19 AM EDT 1st shore course boat to finish Wild Thing a Carera 29 from Class J. Finish time 0518. If no other Class J finishers by 0740, Wild Thing will win Class J.
July 23 2:05 AM EDT Southampton Course Update: Sassy,
E.R.Schmidt's Holland 80, from Bayview Yacht Club, racing in PHRF Class A,
finished at 02:02:08 hrs on Monday, July 23, 2001.
